Sparkling Night, 11 x 15, original watercolor
Look closely at the stars and you will see they are different colors and values. I started with painting by applying masking fluid over the moon and splattering the stars. Once these light areas were protected, I was free to enjoy applying the sky colors wet into wet. Then I would lift some of the stars and apply another layer of color. This was done several times, finally I painted some of the stars yellow. These steps add depth and interest to the sky.
This painting contains Amethyst Genuine from the Primatek collection by Daniel Smith. This specialty pigment is actually made from grinding the semi precious stones. The result is a super granulating pigment that fall apart in a wet wash. It is also great to mix with other pigments and I love how it catches the light with hints of natural sparkle. Using this paint adds a magic that can't be duplicated – not even if you try.
This is an original watercolor painting. Professional Watercolor pigments were used on Arches 140lb paper. The paper is torn by hand to create a deckle edge all the way around. Every effort is made to create straight edges. Please forgive tiny imperfections, they add to the authenticity of one-of-a-kind art. You can choose to frame it with the edge visible or mat it for a clean edge.
No reproductions are permitted.
